The rural commune of Gdów is situated right in the middle of the Małopolska region, 30 km south-east of Cracow. Stretching on the low hills of the Wieliczka district, it features most picturesque scenery, offering peace and quiet. The natural conditions are excellent, and people there are friendly, hospitable and full of truly Slavic vigour. Gdów has about 16 000 inhabitants.
The Raba River winds through the area. The valley of the Raba River marks the borderline between the woodlands and hills of the Wiśnicz and Wieliczka Foothills. A number of vantage points in Winiary, Stryszowa, Zagórzany and Jaroszówka help the wanderers discover the beauty of the Beskid Wyspowy Montains and Wieliczka views. That is the reason why Gdów is now often referred to as the Gateway to the Beskidy Mountains. Clean, fresh air, stretching meadows, birch alleys as well as legendary and fascinating landmarks: grave-mounds, hills, wayside shrines create the unique and unforgettable atmosphere of Małopolska.
